i will presume that is meant to say 3^x not 3x anyway you would simply use the rate of change formula to calculate [ f(3) - f(-2) ] / (3 - (-2)) remember that you must calculate f(3) and f(-2) separately, you cannot interpret f(3) - f(-2) as f(5)
