Manifest Destiny is often described, or promoted, as the "destiny" of the white American peoples to "go forth and spread light" (i.e. religion, literacy, knowledge) to the lesser folk that had lived in the lands before them. This would likely be considered American imperialism, because it has a superiority complex with the white man at the forefront of a pioneer movement.
