The ATA-3 standard has a tendency to suffer more degradation of operations than ATA-2. Advances in ATA standards allow for large increases in data transfer speeds. Each new ATA standard requires an increase in the number of connection pins. The ATA-3 standard is the most advanced form of ATA device to date.
