Choose one of the following cases: McCulloch v. Maryland, Gibbons v. Ogden, or District of Columbia v. Heller. In at least two well-written paragraphs, explain why the case is important to understanding the changing nature of American federalism. I think im gonna go with McCulloch v. Maryland
The outcome of McCulloch v. Maryland supports a more cooperative view of federalism, where the national government has broad implied powers that can prevail over the states.

Ok
Okay so due to the necessary and proper clause, the federal (national) government created a bank. Maryland started taxing the bank (they are a state, not the fed/national government). Big daddy national government got Chicken Nuggetsed and said you can't do that cause supremacy clause (national gov > state gov).
make sense?
Oh and the necessary and proper clause basically says 'Congress can do stuff to better do what they are supposed to do.' So they used it to make a bank because they need to deal with commerce.
and the economy.
So McCulloch v Maryland Changes the nature of American federalism by Taxing the national bank to make it harder to deal with commerce and economy?
no
Maryland wanted money. They were just being greedy. But the national government stated that they couldn't touch the federal bank because of the supremacy clause.
Does that make more sense?
ok.............But how does it Change the nature of American Federalism? how does being greedy and wanting money from the federal bank change the nature of federalism
Federalism is a system of government in which there are two or more levels. America has three: national (federal), state, and local (counties/towns).
This was one of the cases that showed the supremacy clause in effect, showing how the national government supersedes the state.
I'm heading out for school. Hope you got this (:
