Slope Intercept Form \[y = mx + b\] Point-Slope Form \[y - y_{1} = m(x - x_{1})\] Standard Form \[Ax + By = C\]

Nicole:

can you give me a example to help me for each?

Shadow:

y = 3x + 5

Shadow:

What form is that

Nicole:

slope intercept

Shadow:

Point Slope Form is a bit bothersome to convert into so lets do Standard Form \[y = 3x + 5\] Standard Form is \[Ax + By = C\] Subtract 3x from both sides \[-3x + y = 5\] Now A, the coefficient for x, which is -3, cannot be negative, so we multiply the entire equation by -1. \[3x - y = -5\]

Nicole:

im confused lol

Shadow:

With what part

Nicole:

the subtracting part

Shadow:

You don't understand why I subtracted 3x from both sides?

Nicole:

Yes

Shadow:

Well, I wanted to move the Bx over to the left side of the equation. So since it was a positive 3x I subtracted it from both sides, keeping the equation equal. If it were -3x I would have added 3x to both sides.

Nicole:

Ohhh okay makes sense. so what am I supposed to do for this question? http://prntscr.com/ktob46

Shadow:

Write a line in each form then convert it into something else

Nicole:

Wdym "Line" Can you show me how to do one and I do the rest?

Shadow:

That's what I just did with the slope intercept form into standard form
