England is a small country. Why is English spoken in so many places worldwide?
the short answer: Imperialism and control.
Basically, the English spread their religion and language via conquest and exploration. That is why many speak this language. The language is simply evidence of the presence of English settlers/explorers.
Does that make sense? @brooklyn15
A. England colonized many places throughout the globe. B. The English language is the easiest language to learn. C. England is located near the Prime Meridian, making it a popular tourist destination. D. Because England is an island nation, it has had many visitors.
Based from what I told you, I think you might be able to deduce the answer. Am I correct in assuming this?
is it c?
Not quite. Recall, that imperialism is basically extending influence via diplomacy or via conquest. And conquest and exploration is related to...colonization, right?
yes
So what answer is this line of thinking more similar to?
It's not really that small. It's spoken in many places in the world because it's an international language, it's used in the country's that has alot of wealth such as America , Australia and England itself. People have grown to use it everywherre because it's spoken in some popular countries
and i said answer c
or a
Well, I mean, England is only small in comparison to other countries in the world, like Russia. But the correct answer, in this case, would be A. The reason why C is not correct is because tourism doesn't necessarily mean that more people are going to be inclined to speak your language. For example, the Egyptian pyramids are an important tourist attraction but this doesn't necessarily mean that I know Arabic if I visit.
