mhchen:

A hurricane is coming to your house and you know that electricity/running water is going to be disabled for 2 weeks. Instead of evacuating you plan to stay. What would you buy at the market and how would you barricade your house?

Falconmaster:

wood nails sandbags

Falconmaster:

screw probably too

Falconmaster:

oh and a hammer and screw gun

Ultrilliam:

Assuming I have a large bank account. First off, a large battery bank, and a generator. The generator goes into the basement as emergency power. Second, go to the lumber yard and get some sturdy oak Next, I go get large plates of metal, and cut them to the size of my windows and front door. Finally, I get mostly canned food, and bottled water from the store, anything that has a large expiration date. I then proceed to barricade the windows and doors with the sheet metal and wood, and insulate it with rubber and cauk. Hook the power bank to the fridge, but for maximum energy efficiency its on a timer, once every 4 hours its on for 15 minutes, except at night, and there is a alarm 5 minutes before so you can retrieve anything you need from the fridge. Water does not go in the fridge so you can consume the water. A lot of non-perishable food is on standby in the event that the food in the fridge spoils. Lights are all LED's for maximum efficiency, and only turned on when absolutely needed. Keep a weather radio on hand, and a battery operated USB charger so you can charge essentials such as your phone. Keep a UPS on your modem, so you can attempt to maintain internet. Either that, or have a data plan and hope it also holds out. And then you have a somewhat solid plan

@Falconmaster Hopefully your food storage is safe, otherwise good luck not starving. @Ultrilliam You're definitely set. Although some people might try to raid your house. @cupcake123456 same as Falconmaster xd.

mhchen:

Don't forget to buy toilet paper and you're gonna do your business in a hole on the ground. There's definitely people that are gonna loot+raid so I'm defending myself with barbed wire and whatever home-made weapons. Can't afford generator? Get a battery-charger and charge up your batteries at a public building. Sorry strangers, only cute girls allowed in my base huehuehue

mhchen:

I forgot the most important part of all: Downloading a month's worth of anime onto my hard disks so I don't kill myself out of boredom.

Shadow:

There was a news article of how some guy prepared an inflated barricade around his house before a hurricane. The whole neighborhood laughed until it flooded and his house was a little dry island in a new lake. Maybe buy what he got if you expect flooding. Saves you having water flowing through your living room and stealing your TV.

mhchen:

BWAHAHA I just googled it. A guy in Rosharon literally just surrounded his grass with a big inflated ring. 830 dollars apparently.

Ultrilliam:

amazing and OH YEA ENTERTAINMENT! ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THAT Well that's what the battery charger is for, but completely forgot to mention actually downloading shows LOL
