How is a line of best fit drawn? Describe how you decide where to put it. What does it mean for data on a scatter plot to have no association? How does that affect the line of best fit? When finding conditional frequency, how do you know if you should put the row total or column total in the denominator?

@Karla

Karla:

For part 2 an association, sometimes called a correlation, is a relationship between two data sets. For example, as the supply of oil increases, the cost of gasoline decreases. They have a negative association. A scatter plot with a negative association might look like the graph to the left. No association would mean that there appears to be no relationship between the two data sets (or variables). Scatter Plots: two sets of data are plotted as ordered pairs Positive correlation: the data is said to have a positive correlation if the x values increase as the y values increase...for graphs with positive correlation the lines of best fit also have positive slopes. Negative correlation: the data is said to have a negative correlation if the x values increase as the y values decrease, the slope of the line of best fit will be negative. Some scatter plots have no correlation. This means that you can not draw a line of best fit. Line of fit: if the data points closely resemble a line the a line of best fit can be drawn. Line of Best Fit: the line that has the least error margin, meaning the best-fit line most closely resembles the data.

buttercup888:

I know that already. can you give me the answers

Karla:

For part b direct answer will be No association would mean that there appears to be no relationship between the two data sets (or variables).when scatter plots have no correlation. This means that you can not draw a line of best fit.

buttercup888:

There are no parts

buttercup888:

thank you

buttercup888:

When finding conditional frequency, how do you know if you should put the row total or column total in the denominator?

buttercup888:

????

Karla:

You can put either row total or column total

Karla:

In a contingency table (sometimes called a two way frequency table or crosstabs), conditional relative frequency is it’s a fraction that tells you how many members of of a group have a particular characteristic. More technically, it is the ratio of a frequency in the center of the table to the frequency’s row total or column total.

buttercup888:

can you be more specific please?

buttercup888:

thanks

buttercup888:

is that my answer then?

Karla:

Yes

buttercup888:

okay thanks

Karla:
