Can someone please help me analysis this speech please i have to find ethos, logos, pathos, and rhetorical devices 9/11 Address to the Nation President George W. Bush September 11, 2001 Good evening. Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. The victims were in airplanes or in their offices -- secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers. Moms and dads. Friends and neighbors. Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror. The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge structures collapsing, have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness and a quiet, unyielding anger. These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve. America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining. Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature, and we responded with the best of America, with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could. Immediately following the first attack, I implemented our government's emergency response plans. Our military is powerful, and it's prepared. Our emergency teams are working in New York City and Washington, D.C., to help with local rescue efforts. Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world from further attacks.

@Shadow can you help him

Shadow:

Do you know what each of the four terms mean?

jasonmitchell:

unfortuantely no

Shadow:

Logos - Logic ‘These pain meds are proven to reduce pain by up to 99%.’ Pathos - Emotion/Feeling ‘Buying these pain meds will make you feel amazing and happy.’ Ethos - Credibility ‘I am a doctor therefore I can tell you about pain medication.’

Shadow:

Try and find examples for those as a start. Rhetorical devices are a bit more difficult.

jasonmitchell:

um shadow i'm dealing with a history assignment right now and how i could do both at the same time and this history is a long one

jasonmitchell:

i would but i'm so hecked with work

Shadow:

Choose one to do first then do the other one after.

Shadow:

Once you know what you’re doing, this assignment takes 5min tops.

jasonmitchell:

alright can i ask you if it's right

Shadow:

Yes

jasonmitchell:

Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. Logos

Shadow:

Logos utilizes facts and figures to formulate a persuasive argument. I don’t see any in that example.

jasonmitchell:

Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world from further attacks.

Shadow:

I can argue that they did in fact touch the foundation of America because New York is one of the economic powerhouse states of America, with a statue signifying our freedom. Logos shouldn’t be something that can be argued with, since it is fact.

Shadow:

What is that one supposed to be?

jasonmitchell:

i think either ethos or logos

Shadow:

Credibility or logic, which one?

jasonmitchell:

credibility

Shadow:

I don’t see a reference to the speaker being of someone of authority as to convey credibility within that excerpt, thus I don’t think it embodies ethos.

jasonmitchell:

oh ok

jasonmitchell:

i'm sorry english here and history there i'm going back and forth with this
