@JustSaiyan please help me on this question
The purpose of the checks and balances system is to restrain the powers and influences the branches of the governments have over each other. An example of this would be the Presidents inability to abolish sanctuary cities.
I have never heard of that 'check and balance' on sanctuary cities. Is that a check on the executive branch from the legislative branch?
i dont know it just tells me to write two to three paragraphs on that question
It isn't, it is an example of the restrictions and limitations between the branches, presented with my dislike for harboring illegals
can someone please break this down for me so i can understand please
@chaanah So you know the 3 branches of the government right?
Yes They are the Executive, and Judicial legislative
right?
Yes. So basically all 3 of them have power. But if any one of them has too much power then it'll be bad
Each branch has it's own individual powers and responsibility, and each is unable to interfere with another branch because the checks and balance system limits their powers to their own purpose. And each branch will limit the others powers, sort of like the balance of light and darkness (if you're into that)
|dw:1537899565442:dw| So basically to prevent the other branches from having too much power. They can limit the other branches' power with their own power
The Judges can declare laws 'unconsitutional' from the legislative branch and declare executive orders from the President 'unconstitutional' The legislative branch can impeach the president and they confirm judge appointments The executive branch appoints the judges and he can VETO laws from the legislative. Basically they all limit other branches power so we call them 'checks'. And this keeps it balanced so that no one is overpowered.
Checks and balances works in tandem with separation of powers to keep power spread throughout each level of the government in federalism. This ensures that one branch cannot have total or absolute power, as they can always be ‘checked.’ An example of this would be the President being the only one who can enact bills that Congress passes. The Supreme Court can check Congress and the President by ruling acts and executive orders as unconstitutional. Congress can amend the Constitution which the Supreme Court must interpret. They can also change the amount of justices. The President nominates Supreme Court candidates and the Senate verifies then (this is happening right now with Kavanaugh).
