Also, while gifs would be cool in PFP's and I would love to implement this as a subscriber only feature, the simple fact is on older hardware and browser versions GIF's eat a lot of CPU

Considering our target audience is mostly older hardware, it wouldn't be wise to implement this.

However, I could get around this by making gifs load when you hover over the PFP's, not unlike discord. The drawback to this is getting it to work quickly and elegantly, not easy to do unless you preload the gif, and keep in RAM to load whenever.

The second work-around is to only so the GIF when you load someones mini-profile, but this is rather counter-intuitive

If it's ever implemented, it will likely be implemented with the first method, but that is not high on the current priorities list.
