A very helpful chrome extension: Honey I ordered a plate (2 sides+entrees) at Panda Express that would've costed 7.30. But after Honey applied coupons automatically it went down to 4.30. Basically Honey applies coupons whenever you're ordering something online. Thought you guys might wanna try it out cause I'M DELIGHTED
ಠ_ಠ Sounds interesting.
I’ve heard about it but I don’t do enough online shopping to make real use of it. This is basically the same thing Amazon does, not the coupons, but organized data about its users and their shopping. I am curious. Does Honey ever advertise to you? Is it completely free? Is their a paid service or does it run off donations? Unless Honey is directing you to websites then I don’t see how they can be maintained, unless the value user data on taking a loss on app development. @Ultrilliam may find this idea interesting.
And by not doing enough online shopping I mean zero. Also, *there
No i've never received an advertisement from Honey or recommendations, and I never paid for any subscriptions, if you manually click on the extension it'll provide a list of 'trending' stores yah i dont' do online shopping either but I do order food from fast-food restaurants around campus
I'm not sure how they make money
Honey advertises, Completely free, No paid services, Often pays 10s of thousands of dollars to big name youtubers to advertisers Not entirely sure how they make money, I assume partnerships with retail stores to drive up sales (at discounted prices) Problems with honey (as of last time I used it): it's freggin slow; like actually slowed down my browser, I was too lazy to look into what was using all the horsepower code-wise, but that made me immediately uninstall it.
oh it says on their website when you use a coupon they earn a small 'commission from the merchant'
I mean the cost isn’t only with app development, they need to maintain and update the data (add coupons and take out old ones). Pretty sure they are taking it at a loss to study purchasing trends. Unless the trending sites is rigged. The question is, how made Honey? As well as their investors..
"Pretty sure they are taking it at a loss to study purchasing trends." There is no such thing as a loss when you hold that data, they could turn around and sell it for big money
You know what I mean lol
Between selling user data, selling purchasing habits, selling statistical data, as well as money made from the retailers they partner with, they make money.
Yeah that makes the most sense, commissions. But if it slows down Jay’s computer...man xD
Maybe if they expand into books I can use it next semester. Thanks for the heads up though, I know a couple of people who shop online heavily enough to make great use of this. I’ll let them know about it.
