Eh I guess for this one you'd most likely focus on the reliability of the narrator in the story. Since he's understandably under a lot of stress from his situation, it's possible that his version of events is not completely reliable. He even acknowledges this himself at points. If you go in this direction, I think you'll be able to find plenty of evidence from the text to support that argument
