Missy’s rotation maps point K(17, –12) to K’(12, 17). Which describes the rotation

Rosebud24:

Hi welcome to QC! sorry i cant help.

Angle:

Hello! I can help :) please wait a few minutes as I draw out a picture

Angle:

In the picture (sorry for my bad drawing skills) if (x,y) is the original point then a 90 degree rotation (counterclockwise) would result in the point (-y, x) 180 degree rotation would be (-x, -y) 270 degree rotation would be (y, -x) |dw:1539785319051:dw|

Angle:

so for this question, this is gonna take some thinking (because the negatives get weird) so let's think of K = (17, -12) as the original point so (x, y ) = (17, -12) x = 17 y = -12 yes?

Angle:

then, what does (12, 17) look like in terms of "x" and "y"? it looks like we have a positive 12 since y = negative 12, we can say 12 = negative y so 12 = "-y" then, (12, 17) = ( -y , x) I know this can be confusing, do you understand what I did here? :)

Angle:

so we can see that (x, y) got turned into (-y, x) how can we relate to what I said before about: 90 degree rotation (counterclockwise) would result in the point (-y, x) 180 degree rotation would be (-x, -y) 270 degree rotation would be (y, -x)
