Emilee15:

eponym for dementia

SmokeyBrown:

Mm, I think there are forms of dementia that have eponyms, i.e. names based on people. For example, Alzheimer's disease is based on Alois Alzheimer, a researcher of the condition. In the same way, Cushing's disease is an eponym based on the researcher Harvey Cushing I think dementia, as a general term, isn't named after any particular person

Emilee15:

its like a progressive dementia type lol

SmokeyBrown:

Oh, maybe I misunderstood what we were talking about

Emilee15:

how

SmokeyBrown:

Well, I thought an eponym just referred to any medical term named after a person. Is that not what we're talking about?

Emilee15:

o yes im really confused im prbly confusing you im sry

SmokeyBrown:

Oh ok, I'm pretty sure "dementia" isn't named after a person. But, you know, I could be wrong

Emilee15:

well there is always google the all knowing

SmokeyBrown:

Yeah, it's from a Latin root 'dement' or 'demens' meaning out of one's mind. Thanks Google ;p

Emilee15:

lol thx

SmokeyBrown:
