Orgo II Tutorial: Imines & Enamines
\({\bf{Overview:}}\) aldehydes + ketones --> react w/ primary amines to make imines aldehydtes + ketones --> react w/ secondary amines to make enamines |dw:1539898159406:dw|
\({\bf{Imine~Formation:}}\) |dw:1539898186563:dw|
|dw:1539898633594:dw|
|dw:1539898811368:dw|
this isn't directly related to imines and enamines, but there is a third reaction with a derivative of ammonia to produce hydrazone an aldehyde or ketone will react with hydrazine (H2NNH2) basically replaces the O on the C=O bond with an NNH2 group while releasing water |dw:1539899048339:dw| from there it can react w/ water + base in a process known as the wolff kischner reduction
Anyway, that's the end of my tutorial, I hope it was a helpful resource. Source material is Organic Chemistry 12th edition by Solomons, et. al.
