Mercury:

first arrange the dividend in standard form (decreasing exponents) |dw:1540333621215:dw|

Mercury:

then start with the first term of the dividend (-4x^3) and see how many times 4x^2 can go into it (-4x^3 / 4x^2) = -x, then that becomes the first term of the quotient. I am adding a placeholder to the 4x^2 + 3x multiply the divisor * (-x) and write that underneath the dividend|dw:1540333828142:dw| then repeat the same process w/ 20x^2
