Terraces made it easier for land to be divided among many sons. Terraces had a religious significance to the cultural elite. Terraces made it possible to separate different kinds of plants.

Terraced farming became an important part of Chavin and Andes culture. It became an early system of irrigation which made an early solution to upgrade farming practices.
