\({\bf{Lesson~6:}}\) gonna start w/ the phone call vocabulary 给___打点话 gei(3) ___ da(3) dian(4) hua(4) to give ___ a phone call, where the recipient goes into the blank notice that 打 is the same character from 打球 da qiu (to play ball) 点 is the same character as 一点 (a little bit) or the character to tell the hour when telling time 喂 wei (2 or 4) is an interjection used to answer the phone, sort of like how we say "hey" or "hello" when answering a call in English not to be confused with 位 wei(4) which is a formal counting word for people 这是哪位?= who is this, when answering a phone call 我就是 = This is I (used as a response to "Is ____ there? --> means something like "it's me")

talking about time 时间 shijian (21) time, ex: 我没有时间 = I don't have time 上午shangwu(43) and 下午xiawu(43) mean morning and afternoon, respectively 空 kong(4) free time 我有空 = I have free time 以后 yihou (34) after. note that the time words come first, then 以后 to indicate that the action/event takes place after that time 方便 fangbian (14) convenient. 要是你方便 = if it is convenient for you

since this lesson involved talking to a teacher to schedule an office-hours type appointment, we naturally introduced several words relating to education 问题 wenti(42) = question or problem; uses 问 which means to ask 课 ke(4) = class 节 jie(2) = counting word for classes 年级 nianji (22) = grade in school, so 二年级 考试 kaoshi (34) = as a noun, test; as a verb, to administer a test

when it comes to meetings: 开会 (kaihui, 14) to have a meeting. *note: this is a verb, not a noun*, 会 by itself means meeting 等 deng(3) to wait 到 dao(4) to arrive 办公室 bangongshi (414) office

misc: 别客气 = sort of like "you're welcome" using 别 meaning another, and 客气 meaning polite 行 xing (2) = correct

Lesson 6 Dialogue 2: making an appointment but this time w/ a friend to study chinese, so less focus on formalities and more about helping words 帮 bang(1): to help, so 你帮我 = you help me 准备 zhunbei (34) = to prepare 练习 lianxi (42) = to practice 说 shuo(1) = to speak misc. 啊 = a, particle for questions/sentences as a tone-softener 但是 danshi (44) functionally equivalent to 可是 跟 gen(1) with, so 你跟我 (you and I together...) 见面 jianmian (44) to meet up with. note: this word does not take an object. to say "I will meet up with you" = 我跟你见面
