Well if you look not at the people, but at everything else in the image, you can easily answer this question. First, notice the barrels shown. These could contain anything from fruit, drink, etc. We could assume however it is food for the sailors. Second, notice how there aren't any armed figures show, so we can eliminate slave punishment. As for their confusion, we can't tell that from a drawing. Therefore, the answer is C, judging by how close together the slaves are, in such a small chamber
