Ideally you'd want to save as much as possible. But maybe there's a study that says 6months is enough for you to get back on your feet.

My parents don't have a job, besides selling stuff online. They usuall go more than needed because you may never know what emergency it would be. I have a part time job, and I haven't actually saved up for emergencies. But, I'd agree with Shad, 12.
