first calculate the tax 8.5% of 75 is (8.5/100)*75 then add this back to the original bill 75 to get the total price w/ tax

princeevee:

so 6.37 + 75.00?

Vocaloid:

close, if you multiply (8.5/100)*75 you get 6.375 which rounds up to 6.38 so 6.38 + 75.00 yes

princeevee:

alright, can you help with a bit more?

Vocaloid:

I'll do my best

almost ^^ a percent tells you how much of the part is out of the whole thing so part/whole not whole/part

Vocaloid:

so 50 percent/100 = 1 part out of 2 whole, for example

Vocaloid:

almost the instructions say to round the bill up to the nearest dollar first so you would calculate 0.15*38 not 0.15*37.75

princeevee:

ah, alright

princeevee:

so $5.07?

Vocaloid:

close, 5.70, watch the decimal point

A+ good

almost it's asking what percent of the total bill you'd pay so you'd add 100% to represent the original bill, plus the 9.5% tax

princeevee:

so C?

Vocaloid:

100% + 9.5% = 109.5%

Vocaloid:

ehh Finance isn't really my subject but I believe that's correct

princeevee:

oh, well darn..

Vocaloid:

well from a purely mathematical standpoint, you'd divide total miles/your car's mpg to get the total number of gallons, then multiply by the price per gallon since this is a personal finance question I would imagine they would want you to set your budget above that, idk how much though

princeevee:

hm..

Vocaloid:

idk if you're using a textbook/online lecture or whatever, but if you can try to find a formula or something that tells you how much extra to budget that would be good

Vocaloid:

plugging the numbers in gives me about 128 but in terms of creating a budget you would want to exceed that a bit

Vocaloid:

I don't want to mislead you because I really don't know what formula should be applied to FICA however instinctively it seems you would just calculate 7.65% of 36590 and subtract that from 36590

@Vocaloid

Vocaloid:

yup good

Vocaloid:

close it starts on day 1 not day 0 so the appropriate equation would be 8500(1.1)^(n-1) (this way, when you plug in n = 1 you end up with 8500) when you plug n = 30 into this you get 134836 not 148320

princeevee:

Vocaloid:

similar logic to the last problem. if you want n = 1 to equal 8 you have to change the exponent to (n-1) instead of n the way it's written right now, n= 1 will give 4 not 8

princeevee:

so C?

Vocaloid:

yes
