Astronauts in low earth orbit float not due to lack of gravity (they are still quite impacted by the Earth's gravity) but due to the idea of "continuous free fall". This is basically the fact that the ISS, by orbiting the earth, is falling continuously towards the earth but unable to teach it as it has a high tangential velocity component
