When Odysseus gives Polyphemus his real name, why does this cause trouble? It allows the other Cyclopes to help track him down. He slows down to yell to Polyphemus and thus, his crewmen are killed. It allows Polyphemus to curse Odysseus. It doesn't cause trouble; it just illustrates how proud Odysseus is.
