abowens129:

what kind of mechanism allows the salmon cells to adapt to freshwater after leaving saltwater?

JustSaiyan:

I would say they're euryhaline fish, falling into the anadromous category, meaning they are born in freshwater, but spend most of their life in saltwater, but return to freshwater to reproduce. as my best guess Euryhalinity is the level of salinity a fish can withstand, allowing them to migrate between both salt and fresh water.
