Assignment Directions Imagine that you are the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certifier in your area. You must analyze the construction of three different nearby buildings. You may choose whichever buildings you would like, but try to choose buildings with different purposes (libraries, offices, schools, churches). You might want to contact the builder or architect for the building if you are able to help find scores for your LEED categories. Choose five to seven different categories for your ratings, and use the exact same ratings for each building. This means that if you choose water efficiency, you must rate each of the three buildings on water efficiency. Calculate the credits for each of the categories, and provide a total score for each building. Suggest changes for each of the buildings to help them increase their LEED ratings. You will present this information in a script for a three- to five-minute oral presentation to discuss your findings. You must incorporate pictures or drawings of the buildings to support your presentation. For more information about LEED ratings please view this website. Assignment Guidelines Your script for your three- to five-minute presentation must include: an analysis of three different buildings a rating scale and total score for each building drawings and pictures for support Submission Requirements Script for three- to five-minute presentation Proper grammar and vocabulary

@Elsa213

BenLindquist:

Shadow:

Where do you live?

BenLindquist:

texas

Shadow:

This may make it more interesting to discuss categories relevant to your geography.

BenLindquist:

I don't want the answers, I just need help starting it btw.

Shadow:

Does that link list the different categories to chose from?

BenLindquist:

@Shadow it does have the categories and the ratings. Its complicated to me but im not sure if you could make something of it.

Shadow:

I am looking for the place on the website that lists these: http://banyanwater.com/9-categories-of-leed-points/

BenLindquist:

@shadow Choose five to seven different categories for your ratings, and use the exact same ratings for each building. Is there specific categories I should use?

BenLindquist:

If you scroll down on the link that I posted it has different categories but different sub links and pdf's

Shadow:

Energy & Atmosphere is a given I believe, since energy is in the name of the rating system. Definitely at least do that one. It's also quite relevant to costs of running the building, which is a hop and skip away from the innovation category, as certain processes might make it more efficient, perhaps also with water too? That's three at are already intertwined.

Shadow:

An example of the energy and water efficiency from my own state is the use of cool saltwater from the ocean in our cooling systems.

Shadow:

Innovative and new.

BenLindquist:

They have the categories of: Cities and Communities, Homes, ND Neighborhood Development, O+M Building Operations and Maintenance, ID+C Interior Design and Construction, BD+C Building Design and Construction

BenLindquist:

I think they want me to use the ones that are posted on the site. LEED v4 Homes rating system PDF / LEED v4 Homes scorecard / Reference guide overview (this is the sub categories)

Shadow:

Yeah but your project references water efficiency and my link does as well. The website so far hasn't shown those categories.

BenLindquist:

an analysis of three different buildings a rating scale and total score for each building drawings and pictures for support (for this I use the LEED ratings and what about the rating scale/total score for each building)

BenLindquist:

@Shadow if you can look through this, I need to go do something and ill be back later.

Shadow:

I would just call them up for a clear document that lists the categories and ask them about anything else you might need to know. Their search system when I looked for categories brings up a lot of weird stuff. I was going to call for you but it's already past their service time. Phone number and FAQs here: https://www.usgbc.org/contactus Just call them tomorrow, say you're a high school student doing an engineering project, and explain what you need. Since these rating systems make $$$ based on publicity, they will likely help you.
