@Vocaloid

Vocaloid:

first find the median of the entire data set, then take the numbers below the median, and take the median of that set. the result will be your Q1

princeevee:

is 5 the median?

Vocaloid:

hm not quite check again listing the numbers in order we have 1,3,3,5,6,10,11,11,16 what's the number in the middle?

Marziman:

Not to steal the show or anything but hint hint, the middle number = a median.

Vocaloid:

there are 9 items in the list, so the 5th item in the list will be the median (4 numbers above it, 4 numbers below it) so what's the 5th item in our list of terms?

princeevee:

6

Vocaloid:

awesome, so that's the median to find Q1 let's take every value below 6 1,3,3,5 what's the median of this list?

Vocaloid:

since we have an even number, take the two middle numbers, 3 and 3, and take the average of them to get Q1

Vocaloid:

quick refresher on how to take the average of a set of data: add up all the numbers, then divide by how many there are so if you want to take the average of 3 and 3, add them and divide by 2 since we are taking the average of 2 items

princeevee:

3 would be the answer to that

Vocaloid:

good so Q1 = 3 = your solution
