My Notes From A Women Studies Class Titled "Gend/Sex/Sexuality to 1500 CE" It gives me a history credit which I could have gotten from a regular class but the aforementioned topics are of interest to me. I am going to type the notes out and would appreciate no replies until it is posted. The reason I am doing this is to provide provocative information on an important topic. -Treat parentheses normally but brackets will indicate me adding onto what I paraphrased from the professors words.
Nature vs Nurture -Discussion started with a fallen hero [archetype, Magic Johnson got AIDS] -Due to moral perception of AIDS, those that contract it are perceived as depraved (?) -Society gave classifications for the spectrum of gender and identities (Mahu which is a phrase used in Hawaii to refer to males presenting feminine characteristics and vice versa. Additionally, 'two spirited' which was used in the Americas). (Gender) Nurture: (Barbie dolls vs toy trucks) [Yet - inherent differential interest (nature)] Gender roles -> Hierarchy and Status -Power systems (patriarchy and matriarchy) (Sex) Nature: Acknowledgement of intersex [Accounting for an exception but giving a framework to allow for a spectrum between nominal categories. Essentially, a subjective realm subtlety applied between two binaries. Or at least laying the groundwork for such a perception of something as conclusive as sex.] -"Connotation" and context, subjective Layers onto a "noun,'" aka objectivity Nature <-> Nurture -Sexuality in both realms, dictated by former and latter to some extent, with a pervasive effect on sexuality Matriarchy -Law in England changed (Nurture) [But Nature (personality traits) [Power systems ("expose" implies malice coincided with a hidden intention) to maintain or change. Yet the element of evolution favors working systems. Why change? *Equity?]
I have altered some of my paraphrasing and own words for clearer thoughts. Some of these notes aren't immediately perceivable as far as what I mean by them, so feel free to let me know what pieces you would like clarification on. I look forward to hearing any thoughts on these ideas and a healthy discussion. Unfortunately I have to do Latin HW but I will get to any replies eventually. *Note: This is a contentious topic so any inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Feel free to agree or disagree with my thoughts or the professors, but I plan to ensure respect of others ideas in this forum.
@AP Tagged cause you're offline and this may get buried @Vocaloid Because perhaps you are tabbed out. No rush on any replies. Am happy to hear any thoughts at any time on this topic.
