Passage 1 As with many aspects of life in late-19th century America, baseball was segregated. There were separate teams for black players because they were not allowed to play on white professional teams. In the late 1800s, professional African American players played on all-black teams such as the Cuban Giants. Passage 2 After a black woman, Rosa Parks, was arrested for refusing to move to the black section of a bus in Montgomery, Ala. (Dec. 1, 1955), black people staged a one-day local boycott of the bus system to protest her arrest. Fusing these protest elements with the historic force of the black churches, a local Baptist minister, Martin Luther King, Jr., succeeded in transforming a spontaneous racial protest into a massive resistance movement. What comparison can likely be made between the authors of these two passages? A. They are both members of a black church. B. They are both African Americans. C. They are both interested in civil rights. D. They both write editorials for a daily newspaper.
