The Cookie Monster by Audge Podge "I'm going to sell 500 boxes of Girl Scout cookies!" Andrea said. "How are you going to pull that off?" Sandy, a fellow Girl Scout, asked. "People can’t resist Girl Scout cookies. They’re too delicious. Besides, I plan on selling them near the gym and the local Weight Watchers club," Andrea responded. When Andrea’s cookies were delivered, her mother said, "Let’s try hard to keep these away from your father and put them in the spare bedroom." "Why? Won’t Dad want some cookies?" "Well, your father likes cookies so much that I think he probably wished he would have married one," Mom said jokingly. "Seriously, though, your father is a Girl-Scout cookie monster. He can’t resist them. He goes crazy. He really goes crazy." "Mom, I can't imagine Dad getting crazy, but I'll do my best to hide them." "Thanks, dear." The next morning Andrea found her dad passed out in the spare room, and all 500 boxes of cookies were empty. "Dad, wake up. Are you okay, Dad? What happened? Where are my cookies?" "I thought I smelled thin mints and tag-a-longs," he said in a strained voice. "How? They were sealed." "I don’t know, but the next thing I remember is waking up covered in crumbs. I must have turned into the cookie monster again!" At the next Girl Scout meeting, Andrea told everyone what happened. "My Dad turned into a cookie monster. He ate all the cookies and had to pay for them. I already sold my 500 boxes! Having a cookie monster in the family came in handy, but I never knew cookies could make people lose control like that, especially Dad." "Seriously, though, your father is a Girl-Scout cookie monster. He can't resist them. He goes crazy. He really goes crazy." Why does Andrea's mother repeat herself in this quote? A. She has a really bad habit of repeating herself when talking to people. B. She repeats herself because she doesn't know what else to say. C. She wants Andrea to understand that her dad has a real problem. D. She is pretending that Andrea's dad's problem is worse than it really is.
