Poe's Theme in "The Premature Burial" is that the main character faces his fears of being buried alive. "I had fallen into a trance while absent from home-while among strangers—when, or how, I could not remember—and it was they who had buried me as a dog—nailed up in some common coffin—and thrust deep, deep, and forever, into some ordinary and nameless grave." The author explains how If you dont face your fears that they will end up devouring you."Alas! the grim legion of deathly terrors cannot be regarded as altogether fanciful—but, they must sleep, or they will devour us—they must be suffered to slumber, or we perish."

The Theme in Poe's story "The Premature Burial,” isnt something i could compare to. Ive never felt as if i were being buried alive. Though i have experienced alot of situations where i was fearful. I am very terrified of highs so terrified that when i go to the water park and i climb up to ride a ride i start having a panic attack because im up so high. The water park came out with a new ride "The 70 foot drop" i was terrified to ride it i hate heights and feeling like im about to fall. And with this ride it was both those feelings in one. My brothers, cousin and, dad where going to ride the ride and i promised i would ride it with my cousin but once we got to the top i got terrified. Though my dad made me ride it because he wanted me to face my fears. I was very scared and i felt like i couldnt breath but i wanted to face my fears so i rode the water slide. When the countdown started 3...2....1 my heart rate was through the roof and once the slide dropped me it felt like i was flying. Though i will never go on that ride again im glad i was able to face my fears and ride the ride cause if i hadn't i would never be able to ride anything.
