stats question - test to exclude nonlinear value from data set? basically, how do i mathematically justify excluding a highly nonlinear point during linear regression?

I think that question is flawed. You're basically asking for a reason to cherry-pick data that doesn't agree with your model. I don't think any kind of mathematical justification could allow you to exclude data points; rather, you should be looking for other reasons to remove the outlier if you truly believe it does not belong. https://stats.stackexchange.com/a/200545
