We know this is a rhombus as top angle is a 90 degree angle being bisected by the diagonal, as well as the two corresponding sides on the top being congruent (which means the bottom two corresponding sides are congruent as well). What do you remember about diagonals in a rhombus? What are they to each other?
opposite angles of a rhombus have equal measures?
Diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular, remember? Which means they form 90 degree angles. http://prntscr.com/mq85go
so, I sub 90 for y?
Is y one of those angles?
no?
Therefore what is one of those angles and can equal 90
In other words, can be substituted for 90
1?
Yes
Now you just need to solve for y
2(1)+8?
I was referring to angle 1
\[Angle1 = 2y + 8\]
so, what is y then?
If Angle 1 = 90 Then 90 = 2y + 8 Solve for y
Taking a break. Will be on later.
