When presented with the question “Does Plant Food X have an effect on the production of tomatoes?” Develop a hypothesis to answer this question and then design a small controlled experiment to test the hypothesis.
This is an old question. I am responding to help out users who may be seeking out this question in the future. Additionally, please do not copy-paste what I write. This is just to help you get started. Let's break this down into two parts: the hypothesis and the experimental design. Hypothesis: Simply make an if-then statement that contains some sort of outcome that you want to test. ex: If tomato plants are given Plant Food X, the number of tomatos per plant will increase. Experimental Design: you want to describe the basic setup of the experiment. ideally, you will describe a set of constant conditions (temperature, light, humidity, location, etc.) that are constant for both the control group (the group not given the plant food) and the experimental group (the group given the plant food). you also want to describe how you will measure the tomato production of each group (mass, number, size, etc.) and compare them between the groups.
