ALLOW GIFs AS PFP!
DO IT.
Lmao.....YAY
Reee, close this please.
Why, everyone wants GIF pfp
yes do it
@Ultrilliam
yeshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
There is a reason as to why this is disabled (until I at least re-architecture pfps a bit) Due to most of our users being on either school PC's or low end hardware, most of our users would be unable to handle Profile Pictures being GIF's and it would render their computer's unstable/laggy. As such keeping our audience in mind at this time I cannot implement that.
Do it like discord.
Mouse hovering triggers the gif
@Ultrilliam
That would be how I would have to re-architecture it, but it's easier said then done to set that up. Most likely this will also only be a subscriber feature when I implement it.
Ah, ok. Like nitro
One quick question. How come forum sites that use MyBB and such do not lag when like 30% of people use gif pfps
This is a great thread
totally
Depends on your hardware, if you have a GPU, what browser your using, what version of that browser your using, what flags you have enabled, etc. Our site would especially have problems due to the amount of places a single persons pfp can show up, so you could be rendering and SCALING 30 gifs from just a single user. Forums usually don't need to scale GIF's client-side (for each frame) as they pre-scale it to exactly the size it would need. That helps to reduce the load
Like how you have to have 100x100 gifs
Ah, I understand.
Like where people ask questions... in different chats... in messages...and in the online list
Thats alot of profile pictures XD
i think when you click their actual profile page
it should allow the gif
But the picture could be a gif
oooo
I know it seems kind of dumb, because no-one really clicks the actual profile link, but I do.
But then it's in such a seldom used area that the point is practically moot, which is why it isn't there already, and instead pending a better implementation
How about when you click their name and it pops up with the little box
i say do it and try it out 😁😁👌👌👌
I mean if it lags for people, then they can tell you
And if too many people get laggy, then stop it completely
yea it does
I actually had thought about doing it like that, but decided that would still be too little noticeable, better then just allowing it on profiles, but still not as good as a proper implementation
what we doing then???
BRB
Having it as a sub feature could have it so only subbed people could view them?
That prolly makes no sense either
That would defeat the purpose of the feature
more subs doe XD
I think it's hilarious that they said "Do it like discord" when not an hour ago my profile picture on Discord played without being hovered over and I was asked to change it, LOL
I noticed that too and I was like "excuse me how"
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
eh
@justsaiyan I'm talking about the idea, not the way it's executed on discord.
lmao oof
facts
It seems like a good idea, but I can see it getting out of hand really quick.
Even then, that's boost likely a glitch
Most*
Its a suggestion to make more people choose QC over PA. Why are you giving me a reason to go to PA
definitely a glitch
Because as a user with a low-end PC I can tell you that I can't even log into PA. So.
thank u
@justsaiyan most people don't have really low-end PCs
I mean, my 2008 Mac works fine with PA
I don't see how many people would even operate a gif as their profile... dont they have special links for those
really
really
I think gif pfps could be earned
Like with smartcents
Why do you want animated profile pictures so much?
Because who doesn't want a gif pfp
ummm a nobody im guessing
Fair enough. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ However you'll be surprised how limited you'll be when you see the file size limit. :troll:
That's fine. We don't need a huge file size
What if it makes people lag
It only makes people lag the more frames or frames per second
facts
If a maximum size/framerate is established, there shouldn't technically be an issue
Because what everyone is saying, is everyone on QC will have a gif pfp
I doubt that very much
i dont either honestly
Like I like my pfp ATM. Every now and then I would have a gif pfp,but I would probably switch back
honestly its not about the computer its moreso about the data im guessing like frfr who doesnt love gifs??
but you'll make them abuse the BTS gifs as a profile you realize that right ??? @BlankSpace
Keep in mind, that not only the frame-rate number of frames count, but how much the image is scaled, client side the image would be scaled and possibly cause a document-reflow for each frame. Multiply that by every place a GIF is, and it becomes substantial. For example on some browsers if just BlankSpace had a GIF PFP, it would be doing all that 40 times! (indefinitely!) Now let's take a typical GIF FPS (10fps), and that's 400 times it's scaled and calculated per second So once again, if I were to implement it, it would likely be through the means of hovering to see, which is easier said then it actually is to architecture.
Yeah, ok
I see
lol
But just asking if it's possible to maybe try it out for like a day
Just to see if there is lag
I had just my profile picture as a GIF for less then 2 hours a day or two ago, and I got two separate reports of it, actually.
Hi sorry for being late to the party.
So 2 people out of how many active users?
Where's that unsubscribe button ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Where's that file attached button for mobile
Where are those people who actually do schoolwork on mobile? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Me
