Any advice on how I can become a better artist?

umm:

What kind of artist? There are like charcoal pencil, oil paints, chalk, acrylics.. Etc

misty34:

Charcoal pencil

umm:

Ah. You do simple art, or advance?

misty34:

Simple

umm:

Am an artist myself, so just asking a lot of questions to see where you're at lol.

umm:

So do you doodle or just free form sketch meaning like whatever comes to mind.

misty34:

I drew a few anime characters from Tokyo Ghoul and Naruto just to see how well I could draw them. They were decent but, I feel like I could've done better, I had a lot of obvious mistakes but, I would like to draw what comes to mind, I've tried before but, I did terrible. I feel like I do better looking at step by step to draw than what comes to mind.

umm:

Ah, I see. Do you have any images saved of your drawings?

misty34:

I don't have any pictures saved

misty34:

I took 1 just now. It's the best I think out of all of them

misty34:

umm:

Oh nice. I would say shading practices would be a good start.

misty34:

Alright, I've been watching some shading tutorials recently. I haven't tried yet though

umm:

Ah alright. While using charcoal, be sure to keep a spare piece of paper or napkin under the side of your hand to avoid smudges for best results.

misty34:

Alright. I'll try that. I might try to start a sketch tonight. I'll take more time on this one than I have the others. I tend to rush drawings.

Professional:

Watch youtube videos and keep dedicating yourself to such a beautiful art! time and practice. :D

misty34:

Thank you

umm:

You're welcome

use references to learn from

563blackghost:

One thing as an artist is that sometimes you look at what you are drawing and you think of how messed up it looks and just decide to stop, BUT DONT. Just keep drawing it out and in the end look at your piece and critique it, learn from your mistakes and what you can improve on. It takes much time but eventually you'll get to a point where you know you have improved but could even more cx

misty34:

@563blackghost Thank you

563blackghost:

no problem cx I would give advice on charcoal drawings but im a digital artist not a traditional one so I wouldn't really know upon that >.<

Duolingobird:
