well you need a good quality pencil keep it sharp Use a kneaded eraser and not a eraser from a pencil Use light shades just in case you mess up wash your hands before you start so it wont get the paper dirty etc.

Use references, try out different styles, draw lightly LOOK AT OTHER PEOPLES ARTWORK AND USE IT FOR INSPIRATION. (lol I cant spell) Its not "tracing" when using references or inspiration, I can not stress this enough. It WILL help you.
