MrMudd183:

POLI 1100 EC1 Assignment #1 50 Points Over the next few weeks, I would like you to read and summarize 2 news articles, as follows: 1. Find a news article (of at least 5 paragraphs in length) from 2019 in two of the following areas: a. National News- Foreign Affairs b. National News- Domestic Affairs c. State News The article can be from a newspaper, news magazine or the website of a legitimate news source (state, local or national newspaper like the Advocate or Washington Post; a major media center such as CNN.com; a magazine such as U.S. News and World Report). Do not use a news source more than once-each article should come from a different news source. Make sure that your article is a news article and not an opinion article. 2. For each article, write an essay that contains the following: a. One-paragraph that summarizes the news article; b. One paragraph that indicates why you chose this article and why you think that it is significant. c. Include a reference to the article in MLA form 3. Upload your essays in one document into canvas (you don’t have to upload the articles). 4. A couple of notes: a. National News – Foreign Affairs – this category deals with the United States relationship with other countries. It should not include articles on Russian interference in the 2016 election (that is domestic affairs). You could use articles about the relationship of the U.S. between, North Korea, Iran, Israel or the U.K. b. National News – Domestic Affairs: This should include news important to the nation as a whole; just because an article is not about Louisiana, does not mean that it is national news. News in this category would include 2016 election interference, the tax bill, economic policy, gun laws. c. State News – Please find an article relevant to the entire state. Avoid articles about, say, isolated crime. We are in a special legislative session, so there should be numerous articles about this. d. Use news articles only. Do not use opinion pieces. e. Don’t over-complicate this project. Find news articles that you understand. If you don’t understand the article, pick a different article.

MrMudd183:

it's due tonight. please help ASAP

umm:

Have you started on it?

MrMudd183:

sort of. it's for a college class. i forgot all about it last weekend. the professor said i can get it done and turn it in by tomorrow morning

umm:

Ah. What have you got so far?

MrMudd183:

i was researching for the articles on this

MrMudd183:

that's it. and i forgot the website it was on sadly

MrMudd183:

sorry

umm:

Ah. Okay, lets see what we can find. Give me a sec - and since it is your assignment would you like to look for some as well?

MrMudd183:

sure, i will try

umm:

One of them - https://www.isidewith.com/polls/domestic-policy

Shadow:

AP News is a good non profit that is independent thus their articles are typically simply news and not opinionated. "e. Don’t over-complicate this project. Find news articles that you understand. If you don’t understand the article, pick a different article." This is extremely key. Just do some research on topics that you're interested in and you'll come across something that you can write about. I can help you with the essay if you want as well.

Shadow:

Reuters is also another good non opinionated news source.

MrMudd183:

Ok, thank you

MrMudd183:

i can't find anything good to write. i have to work on something else because it's also due tomorrow

Hero:

Write about something you're interested in. Can you name some topics that you're interested in?

Hero:

From there, you can conduct a search. Let me see if I can find something that can help you in the mean time.

MrMudd183:

i like computer stuff, i guess Net Neutrality

Kamauri:

sorry cant help u bro😔

Hero:

Here you go, there's a compilation of the most trustworthy news outlets by rank. So you can compile your list of Net Neutrality articles from those sites.

MrMudd183:

thank you.

Hero:

You're most welcome.

Hero:

Also, if you haven't studied Net Neutrality in a while and need to brush up on your knowledge, I recommend watching a video about it on YouTube and reading about it on Wikipedia, but do not write your article based on the Wikipedia content. Your teacher will probably be furious if you do.

MrMudd183:

yea, can someone please do it? this will be the only time. i promise

Hero:

@MrMudd183 can someone do WHAT exactly?

Hero:

YOU do it

MrMudd183:

I HAVE SOME OTHER PROJECT TO DO

Hero:

I doubt if anyone else has time to help you with this. Other people are probably busy with projects of their own.

MrMudd183:

yea, but both of them are due tomorrow first thing in the morning

Hero:

Well, looks like you have your greatest challenge for the day to complete. Pull an all-nighter and get it done because no one is going to do it for you. At least not for free.

MrMudd183:

i'm only 14. my parents make me go to bet before 11:00 PM CST

Hero:

Don't use age as an excuse. There are students your age graduating from college.

MrMudd183:

yea, on the other side of the world

Kamauri:

dont worry u will do good🤗

Hero:

What usually follows a list of excuses for not doing something you're supposed to do is a TON of regret.

MrMudd183:

OK, I WILL

MrMudd183:

I JUST NEED TO GET IT DONE AND I'M SO BUSY WITH SOMETHING ELSE

Kamauri:

good luck 😊

MrMudd183:

Kamauri:
