zarkam21:

Just need assistance organizing my essay. Here are the parts, need guidance on how to organize the topics for a 7 page topic: Intro trauma in honor killings talk about documentary brothers case of killing sister conclusion and sum up of argument

zarkam21:

It needs to be 7 pages so I am having a hard time organizing the topics should I do a certain number of paragraphs for each topic?

zarkam21:

@Shadow

zarkam21:

@Vocaloid

Vocaloid:

there isn't really a set number of paragraphs per topic but generally the amount you spend talking about a certain topic should be proportional to how complex the idea is or how important it is to your central argument

Vocaloid:

from personal experience I usually just start by writing out what I want to say for each thing and then going back and re-organizing it in a way that makes sense

Vocaloid:

yeah sorry if that's kind of vague

zarkam21:

Could you help me with coming up with an argument. Right now it is, " Honor killings are not just a Muslim problem, they are the most extreme form of targeted violence against women"

zarkam21:

My professors comments on this are that it still requires complexity and specificity

zarkam21:

and needs to include why it is traumatic. I have my entire essay organized now (created an outline for myself) , but I am having trouble trying to argue about honor killings, like coming up with a bold statement not just saying it is "bad"

Vocaloid:

hm personally I'm having a little trouble articulating the exact reasons why I find honor killing unacceptable but I'll try - honor killing is done when there somebody does something that the family/community finds dishonorable. I do not believe that gives people the right to kill someone, especially not without going through a fair hearing - often times the "dishonor" is an act of self-protection like escaping an abusive household, or divorcing a partner, etc. even situations that are completely out of the victim's control, like being raped, can result in the victim being honor killed

zarkam21:

So having these statements as thesis or arguments.

zarkam21:

?*

Vocaloid:

uh these are more just arguments, your thesis statement is sort of your way of introducing what your main argument is without giving away the meat of it

Hero:

I was just going to say, if you want to make it more complex and specific include things such as how the killings affect the political situation the nation is currently facing. Is it putting pressure on the president to do something? Are citizens questioning his ability to resolve it? Will it affect future elections? What is its impact on tourism? How are is the everyday life of citizens impacted by these killings? What examples can you give that demonstrate this? How is the country as a whole impacted? How far has the president gone to do something about it? Is the United Nations involved? What role is the United States playing in this if any? Anytime you can describe the political situation affecting a situation a nation is experiencing, that will surely introduce many complexities.

Hero:

@zarkam21 does that help you?

zarkam21:

Yes alot actually. Thank you so much

Hero:

You're welcome.
