PLEASE HELP A Walmart truck driver estimates that it will take him 12 hours to drive 1152 km. After 5 hours, he has driven 520 km. (a) According to his original estimate, how far would he drive in 1 hour? Show your number sentence and solution. (b)Is he on schedule to arrive on time? Use a UNIT RATE to explain your reasoning.
@Hero is there a formula for part B?
Did you figure out how far he drove in 1 hour using the original estimate?
yes
And what did you get?
I got 96 km
Okay, so using that as the unit rate, how far should he have driven after 5 hours?
I'm confused
Basically, multiply the 96 by 5 to figure out how far he would have to travel after 5 hours in order to still be on time (in order to have a chance to get to his destination 1152 miles away after 12 hours).
oh okay,i understand now
So is he on time or not?
no hes not on time
Can you explain why he's not on time?
because he was estimating it would take him 12hr to drive 1152km, but after multiplying 96 times 5= 480 so hes not on time
Answer these three questions: 1. According to the original estimate, how far should he expect to travel after five hours in order to be on time? 2. How far did he actually travel? 3. Is he ahead of schedule, on schedule, or behind?
okay,1:520, 2: he traveled 480, 3: behind
I think you have that all backwards
480 is the ESTIMATED distance. 520 is the ACTUAL distance. And he would actually be AHEAD of schedule. SMH
oh okay I see, thank you for taking me through the process
