apply pythagorean theorem on the left triangle to find the hypotenuse, then apply the pythagorean theorem on the right side of the triangle to find BC remember, a^2 + b^2 = c^2, where a and b are the legs, and c is the hypotenuse

on the left triangle a^2 + b^2 = c^2 since your legs are sqrt(13) and sqrt(23) you can plug these into the equation and find the hypotenuse BC

leave them in terms of radicals for now [ sqrt(13)]^2 + [ sqrt(23) ] ^2 = c^2 solve for c
