so we have
7e - 4 = 31

we have a 4 that we are subtracting on the left side
How do we get rid of it? By doing the OPPOSITE on BOTH sides?

What's the opposite of subtraction?
It's addition.

So we add 4 on both sides

7e - 4 + 4 = 31 + 4

the -4 + 4 on the left side cancel out and we're left with

7e = 31 + 4

we can do 31 + 4 and that's 35 so now we have

7e = 35
