JustSaiyan:

The two main groups of minerals are Silicate and nonsilicate minerals. Silicate minerals all contain a combination silicon and oxygen, hence the name. They are also all over, and can easily be found. Examples of these include table salt, limestone, and that marble counter we all want. nonsilicate minerals do not contain a combination of oxygen and silicon (if you couldn't tell) and are a lot more rare, examples being gold, silver, and pyrate (ok so pyrate isn't that rare and neither is gold or silver really, but you don't find them in every household either.)
