Going over some Mandarin notes for a spoken exam

Moon:

\({\bf{Lesson~22~Seasons:}}\) exam is spoken only so I'm just going to put pinyin for now chūn jì (spring): wēn nuǎn (warm) de yáng guāng (sunshine) zhào (shines) dà dì (Earth) > translated: The warm sun shines on the earth xià jì (summer): yòu mēn (suffocating) yòu rè (hot) tòu (breath) bù chū qì (does not rise) > translated: It's suffocating and hot and hard to breathe qiū jì (fall): tiān gāo (clear skies) qì shuǎng (crisp air) zhēn (very) qiè yì (nice/pleasant) > translated: Clear skies, crisp air, very pleasant dōng jì (winter: Dōng zhì (winter solstice) běi (north) fēng (wind) qǐ (rises) , xuě huā (snowflakes) piāo yì (flutter/swirl), duǒ zài (to stay) mén lǐ (inside) chū bú qù (not go outside) > translated: The winter solstice, the north wind blows, snowflakes fall, stay inside more and do not go outside

Moon:

\({\bf{Lesson~23-24~Making~Comparisons:}}\) I feel pretty confident about these two units, just want to go over some quick things "chī fàn" shì zǒng chēng (general term) > translated: "chī fàn" is the general term (for eating food in general, not just mi fan) Tā chàng dé hǎo (He sings well) bú guò (however) pà wǎ luó dì (Pavarotti) chàng dé gèng hǎo (sings even better) > need to memorize pà wǎ luó dì mǎ dí: shuō tā yě léi (tired) dé yào sǐ le (wants to die) > translated: mǎ dí said he is so tired he could die ("dead tired"). need to memorize the name mǎ dí

Moon:

\({\bf{Lesson~25~Hotels~and~Booking:}}\) fú wù yuán (hotel attendant) is yǐ guest is mǎ dí gotta remember that yǐ asks for just the passport (hù zhào) first, then asks to make a copy of (fù yìn) his passport (hù zhào) AND visa (qiān zhèng) - if the question mentions (fù yìn) make sure to mention the visa remember that the attendant wants to upsell the guest on the expensive room (tào jiān) but the guest wants the standard (biāo zhǔn jiān) after the attendant says something like "all foreigners are rich" (nǐ men lǎo wài dōu hěn yǒu qián, yay for casual xenophobia), the guest responds: "not all foreigners are rich, I care about expenses like this" Tā zhè gè lǎo wài ("this foreigner") jiù (emphasis) zài hu (cares) zhè jǐ ge qián (how much it is) the booking fee is 800 yuan (bā bǎi kuāi). it's the only time they ask "how much") the room is 626 (liù èr liù hào fáng jiān) gotta remember hào as this designates that this number is assigned to an object

Moon:

\({\bf{Lesson~26~Internaional~Calls:}}\) this is the most difficult unit b/c of the huge influx of new vocab rip zhāng mùsī is the guest in this situation (apparently they switched from ma di?) and they're talking to an attendant attendant tells guest to check the room service guide (tí shì bù) to see where the numbers are written guest asks how to make a call to America and the attendant makes a long-ish response (this will probably be asked on the exam so just gotta memorize this whole thing rip >_>) bō wán jiǔ (dial 9) yǐ hòu (after) yāo bō (dial, or more literally, a command/suggestion to dial) guó jì (international ) cháng tú (code) líng líng (00) měi guó qū háo shì yī (the American country code is 1) dá měi guó jiù shì líng líng yī (dial American, it's 001) rán hòu (then) zài bō qū hào (country code) hé diàn huà hào ma (and telephone #)

Moon:

they ask for the phone rate, which is 6 yuan per min for first three minutes, then 1 yuan per minute after that dì yī gè sān fēn zhōng shì liù kuài yǐ hòu shì yí kuài qián yì fēn zhōng where to find phone cards: (like those sim card things I guess?) jiē shàng (on the streets) dào chù (all over the place) dōu yǒu (they all are there) shāng diàn (shops) yóu jú )post office) shū tān (bookstores) bào tíng (newspaper stands) dōu yǒu they are all there)
