take one poem at a time. go through line by line, and look at the end word of each line. for the first word, assign "a". if the next line rhymes with the first line, also assign that "a". if it doesn't rhyme, assign it "b". keep going, using repeated letters for repeated rhymes (all lines that rhyme with a should be marked a, same with b, etc.) I'm not 100% sure but these may be the opening lines of "Douglass"? (please confirm with your assignment) Ah, Douglass, we have fall'n on evil days, Such days as thou, not even thou didst know, When thee, the eyes of that harsh long ago Saw, salient, at the cross of devious ways, assign "days" as A. next line ends with "know" which is a new rhyme (B). next line ends with "ago" which rhymes with "know", so we assign this line as B.
