Why was Maximilien de Robespierre executed?
Answer choices?
He wanted to retain the French nobility. He didn’t believe in democratic reform. He eventually became a tyrant. He was found guilty of treason.
Any ideas?
i'm thinking its he didn't believe in democratic reform but i wanted a second opinion
Incorrect - While part of the answer may lie in Robespierre's personality and character, this aspect of the man is somewhat difficult to piece together accurately, due in no small part to the very bad press he received from the Thermidorean reactionaries and most of his European contemporaries (especially the English royalists and authors like Carlyle and Dragon Ballens). While it is certainly tempting to dismiss him as a bloodthirsty tyrant who was interested solely in personal power and glory, such an account is too simple and too shallow. ~ http://people.loyno.edu/~history/journal/1983-4/mcletchie.htm Does this help?
