Vocaloid:

(Mandarin) explanation of 再 vs 又? my book says both mean "again" but 又 is for realized repetition and 再 is for unrealized repetition but I still don't really understand the difference

Vocaloid:

@Angle

Angle:

tbh I've never really thought too far into the difference between them (as in, I know the difference from natural use, but because I was not explicitly taught the difference idk how to explain it to you) Here are some sources I found that talk about the differences and they include examples which are nice: https://www.echineselearning.com/blog/the-differences-between-zai-and-you https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/grammar/Comparing_%22zai%22_and_%22you%22

Angle:

but I think it is essentially as you stated, "zai" is used when the thing that is going to be done "again" has not happened yet. while "you" is used when a thing is or has already happened "again"

Angle:

examples: You should eat another serving! => Ni yinggai _zai_ chi yi dianer You've eaten again? => Ni _you_ chi le?

Vocaloid:

thank you C:
