Bridgetteb:

A ship is traveling around the outside rim of an island surveying a good place to land. If it is 10 miles from a lighthouse at the center of the island and 45° from due north, how far has the ship traveled from the most northern tip of the island to the nearest tenth?

Mercury:

|dw:1557760713307:dw|

Mercury:

the distance is the arc between due north and the ship the total distance around the island is C = 2 * pi * r where r is the radius (10 miles) the ship has only travelled (45/360 degrees) of the entire circumference so the arc is (45/360) * 2 * pi * r, plug in r and pi and round to the nearest tenth
