"Her eyes shone like the sun." Is this an simile or an analogy? I'm very confused, please explain to me how.

if it makes a comparison using the words "like" or "as" it's a simile

if it makes a comparison without these words, it's more likely to be an analogy

yes but i thought an analogy means a comparison in which an idea or a thing is compared to another thing that is quite different from it.

I suppose you could make the argument that this is an analogy but similes tend to be short comparisons w/ like or as, so simile is a better fit for this sentence
