@khalilbarr1 the files you attempted to upload are only accessible if you click the attach file link below the chat box, then attach the file from there.
What I'm trying to say is, I cannot help you with your problem because I am not able to access the .jpg files you have attached.
Maybe you see pictures on your end, but on our end this is what we see:
This is what we see on our end: |dw:1560862803217:dw|
So we do not see any pictures nor are we able to click to see your file. Do you understand that you have to click the attach file button below the chat box @khalilbarr1
@Ultrilliam it seems from my point of view that every user who attempts to post files in the question area do not seem to be able to respond in the chat box. There may be another glitch you've overlooked.
Maybe they are not able to see my replies either. This user just sent me a message which to me confirms that he is unable to respond to his own question he posted.
Any time I reach out to these specific users, the response is the same. NOTHING. There's definitely something going on here and I've observed this trend for at least a year now. Maybe longer. They don't reply to their questions and they don't reply to their messages either.
So you @Ultrilliam must have introduced some limitation that you are unaware of and should investigate. I think this IS highly related to the problem of why we're seeing such low numbers. These users have been muted it seems.
Furthermore other than the autoprompt that says "This user has just posted their first question", I don't usually see users who post these "question files" responding in the chat either. They should be able to whether they have verified their email or not. I think you may have introduced too many limitations to prevent spam users but it compromises our ability to help some new users.
These are exactly the kind of users we end up losing.
I'd rather deal with spam users than lose thousands of genuine users.
Funny you should mention that, the only limitation on new users is that they must verify their email to be able to change their profile picture, all others have been lifted as of I believe 6 months ago. I've definitely considered the possibility it could be a glitch so I've tested QC on a wide range of browsers and hardware from new to old, but I consistently see that nothing is wrong, and I can't get it to not work. That said, I unfortunately do not think it's a glitch, more perhaps not knowing how to use the site, which is why I've considered the possibility of adding a interactive tutorial of sorts to the site to try to teach new users how to use it
We never had these kinds of problems on Open Study. I find it interesting that users who post questions such as Find the length of 2004-01-01-04-00_files/i0420001.jpg. are the same ones that end up not responding when we ask them to upload the file and not responding to any direct messages I send them.
They're able to post the question to which there is no associated picture that helpers can access and then they act as mutes for the rest of their waiting period until they leave and are gone forever.
They all seem to come from the same online academy which they copy+paste the images, as there is a link we can use to view what those images are, which makes me wonder.
I should say copy+paste the question which also copies the filenames*
I see. Still doesn't explain why they fail to respond when we ask them questions.
If you were wondering, http://media.education2020.com/evresources/ paste the image at the end of that link and it will show the image
I still think it is of no use if the students are going to just observe and not respond.
After a quick dig, it seems to be from Edgenuity
Is it possible for you to be able to accomodate these users better so that we make sure they are able to respond? I wonder how many cases of users posting these questions and an asker attempting to help them results in no response followed by the user disappearing? I'd say thousands from my experience. I think resolving this issue is a top priority. I know your current stance is "there is no glitch", but my observations over the course of over a year say otherwise.
I would love nothing more than to accommodate the users better, and I'd honestly love for it to be a glitch that I could fix, but if it was one that I have seen no real evidence from my side, and without knowing what's happening even slightly I have no way to fix it. Until them I'm forced to assume that we're doing something wrong with our approach, or it's because we don't have the interactive tutorial like OpenStudy had, which is the only idea I have at this point.
Have you ever considered allowing the embedding of youtube videos as part of tutorials? I think youtube videos combined with QC's threads would allow for easier tutorial development.
Also I just want to say that I have yet to have one conversation with a user who tried to post a pic in the question box. I tried reaching out to them and no response. Other users I get a response from. The problem is limited to those who try to post their pic in the question box.
